BPOs foray into Jammu and Kashmir

Srinagar, Feb 11 : Jammu and Kashmir today joined the economic mainstream with Essar group unveiling Rs 100-crore plan for starting BPO centres in the state that suffered at the hands of militants for long.

The group will set up two Business Outsourcing Process centres in Srinagar and in Jammu providing employment to 2,000 people.

The foundation stone for one of the centres was laid at Rangreth Industrial Estate here.

"We believe our responsibility is not just to create employment but also train human resources and develop their skills. We are proud to extend the same opportunity to the people of Jammu and Kashmir so that they can join the country's economic mainstream," Aegis Managing Director and Global CEO Aparup Sengupta said.

The decision of Aegis, the BPO arm of the Essar group, to set up two BPO centres in the state follows Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's pleas seeking investments from private sector during his recent visit to Mumbai.

Sengupta said with these two centres, the company would now be employing around 32,000 employees across 32 global locations.
