PETA urges Armani boycott at the Oscars

Animal rights organisation People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has urged Hollywood to boycott Armani for the Oscars as it has allegedly used fur in its collection. The brand's fashion designer Giorgio Armani last year promised that animal fur will not be used in any future collection.

PETA in a full-page advertisement in Hollywood trade paper Variety termed Giorgio Armani as "Pinocchio Armani" for apparently breaking the promise of not using animal fur in his clothing, reports a news website.

In the ad, PETA has charged that Armani's latest collections included fur-trimmed skirts and coats, and also said jackets and snowsuits for toddlers were trimmed with rabbit fur.

An Armani representative said there was no statement immediately forthcoming as the designer had not yet seen the advertisement. The representative was also unable to comment on the company's use of fur since Armani's announcement a year ago.

Hollywood celebrities like Katie Holmes, Beyonce, Penelope Cruz and Cate Blanchett often wear Armani for red carpet events.
