"We are taking steps to increase vigil on the borders and strengthening our security forces to tackle terrorists and prevent such attacks in the future. We are prepared to tackle the threat from terrorists," Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi told media on the sidelines of the 18th Admiral Katari memorial lecture here.
Listing the measures taken to tighten up the security in the militancy-affected state, Gogoi said," Necessary equipment are being provided to our forces to tackle the threat from terrorists and we are strengthening our intelligence network also."
The Assam Chief Minister said his government was "in favour" of the proposed Federal Agency by the centre to tackle terrorism in the country.
"We are in favour of the proposed federal agency by the Central Government and we have talked about it with the Centre," he said.
Gogoi said his government was taking various steps to "check infiltration" from Bangladesh border with the help of the central government.
"We are installing more flood lights on the fence along the border with Bangladesh and the distance between the border out posts (BOPs) has also been reduced, so that the troops can guard borders more effectively and we are planning to increase the number of riverine police in the area," he added.
