A Craigslist for Service"

Craig Newmark: Deep in the Barack Obama platform, there's a reference to "a craigslist for service." It's humbling to see our name in there, but I'd prefer to see that as only a metaphorical reference to the need for greater service to others, with the spirit and culture of trust of craigslist. Obama is inspiring millions of people to consider service to others, and to innovate for service. While "a craigslist for service" is just a metaphor, as customer service rep and founder of craigslist, well, seems right to stand up and say something about this. Here's what I think "a craigslist for service" could be in the short term, from my personal perspective. Click here to read more.

Elizabeth Drew: Frost/Nixon: A Dishonorable Distortion of History

The film's plot is a contrivance -- its telling is so riddled with departures from what actually happened as to be fundamentally dishonest; and its climactic moment is purely and simply a lie.

Jacob Heilbrunn: Bush's Solecisms in Iraq

Not since Soviet premier Khruschev took off his shoe and pounded it at the United Nations has anyone had the effect that an Iraqi journalist did when he hurled both his shoes at President Bush.

Vicky Ward: Time to Blame Our Own Greed For the Madoff Mess

When are we going to stop talking about Madoff's "victims" or "foolish investors" and instead ask investors to take responsibility for their own actions?

Emma Ruby-Sachs: Colin Powell a Reformed Sinner?

The radical shift in Powell's stance on LGBT issues should not give him a carte blanche. As chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Powell justified homophobia as a simple objection to a behavioral choice.

Jesse Kornbluth: Ignore Your New Flat Screen. Put Down Your Wii. Use The Week After Christmas To Volunteer

I feel as if we're sitting back again, waiting for Obama to be inaugurated so he can fix it all. Did "yes we can" really evaporate that quickly?
