Karachi, Multan, Lahore, December 12 (ANI): Locals in Pakistan have reacted very strongly to the government's decision to place Jamaat-ud-Dawa founder Hafiz Saeed under house arrest under pressure of the UN, the US and India. Many people in Karachi said this sort of pressure is unacceptable. Many others blamed the United Nations for succumbing to New Delhi's pressure. India blames the LeT for the Mumbai attacks and also for the 2001 assault on the Indian Parliament.

Srinagar, December 12 (ANI): A curfew-like situation prevails in Jammu and Kashmir in the wake of a separatist call for boycotting elections in the disputed region on Friday. Police and soldiers patrolled the deserted streets of Srinagar and warned residents to stay indoors. They said they anticipated Muslims taking to the streets in protest after Friday prayers. The Indian authorities have deployed security personnel to counter the planned protests.

Raipur, December 12 (ANI): Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh was sworn into office for a second consecutive five-year-term on Friday. Senior BJP leaders, including L.K.Advani, party chief Rajnath Singh and others were present at the swearing-in ceremony. The State's Governor, E S L Narasimhan, administered the oath of office in Raipur at a Raj Bhavan function amid heavy security.

Jumbo, which was earlier slated to release along with Rab Ne Banadi Jodi on December 12, has now been postponed and will release with Ghajini on Christmas Day. Aamir Khan's Ghajini is a revenge story based on the super hit south film which was vaguely based on the Hollywood film Momemto. While Jumbo is an animated film where the protagonist, an elephant, sets out in search of his parents.

New Delhi, December 12 (ANI): The Governor of Reserve Bank of India or RBI on Thursday said that the near-term outlook for the Indian economy remains uncertain, and the RBI is ready to follow up last weekend's aggressive rate cuts if needed to boost the economy. Asia's third-largest economy is struggling to fend off damage from the global credit crisis. Last weekend, government unveiled a fiscal package including 4 billion dollar of extra spending.

New Delhi, December 12 (ANI): A photo exhibition named 'The People Tree' dedicated to communities such as female sex workers, the gay people, transgender, vulnerable and orphan children living with AIDS opened in New Delhi on Thursday. Organized by a voluntary organization in collaboration with Karnataka health promotion trust, the exhibition is showcased at the American Culture Centre.
