11 Braveheart Security Personnel to get Ashok Chakra on Republic Day

The Union Government has decided to confer ‘Ashok Chakra’ on 11 braveheart security personnel, who laid down their lives while fighting for the nation. The list included six officers who died during the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks. ‘Ashok Chakra’ is the highest peacetime gallantry award, equivalent to ‘Param Veer Chakra’.
The government has decided to confer ‘Ashok Chakra’ on Inspector Mohan Chand Sharma of Delhi Police, who was killed during the Batla House encounter in Jamia Nagar, Delhi. Former ATS Chief Hemant Karkare and NSG Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan are among others who have been selected for this honour.

Out of 15 policemen from Mumbai, who were killed during the 26/11 carnage, four were selected for Ashok Chakra, while others will be given the Kirti Chakra and Shaurya Chakra.
