Employees fear pay revision

Agartala, Jan 14 : Tripura government employees have become restive over reports that their revised pay and allowances will fall far short of expectations.

The two-member pay review committee is expected to submit its recommendations to the government soon.

The pay review committee had been constituted by the state government with principal secretary A.K. Mangotra as chairman and retired additional secretary (finance) R.K. De Chowdhury as member-secretary in November last year.

Last week, De Chowdhury expressed resentment over the “pressure” being built upon him by the ruling party not to make “too generous recommendations”.

This created a furore after it was leaked to the media but there was no reaction from the ruling party except a denial that De Chowdhury had ever been called to the CPM party.

But angered by the leaked report, the employees have reacted sharply.

They are preparing to hold a blockade at the secretariat on Thursday.

Karmachari Gana Mancha, a conglomerate of anti-Left employees’ associations, has decided to protest against the anticipated deprivation of the employees by the government.
