"We have not interfered in any way with the contents and it is purely the work of the inmates of the prison. They have contributed articles, poems and paintings and we believe this is a first of its kind initiative in Inida," Director General (Prisons) R Natraj told PTI.
The monthly titled&aposUl Oli'(the light within) was aimed at offering the inmates of the prison at suburban Puzhal a forum to express their views.
The magazine&aposs contents were the result of the"solitude"in the prison as inmates had time to"introspect,"and thus expressed their opinion, Natraj said.
Such an initiative would also keep the inmates"engaged", he said adding the first edition was released here yesterday.
The first edition was released by philanthropist S A P Varadhan.
