6 ways Alexander McQueen changed fashion



From super low-slung trousers and skull scarves to extreme shoes and sharp tailoring, British designer Alexander McQueen, who was found dead just under a week ago, was the darling of the couture pack. Let’s take a look at the contributions he’s made to the fashion industry over the years.
Low-slung jeans. McQueen was the man who made the builder’s bum fashionable. His “bumsters,” which appeared in 1996, spawned the trend of scandalously low-rise jeans.

Mould-breaking models. McQueen liked to shock and surprise people at his catwalk shows. He never conformed to industry norms. In 1998 he caused controversy when double amputee Aimee Mullins, a former Paralympian, modelled the catwalk wearing a pair of hand-carved wooden prosthetic legs.

Tailoring. McQueen was an expert at creating impeccably tailored looks. He clevery cut clothing, perfecting the shapes and proportions of his creations.
