Here’s what you, the reader, had to say about bomb fear & garbage plan | ||||
The serial blasts in Guwahati on New Year’s day have dashed our hopes of lasting peace. Union home minister P. Chidambaram, who arrived in the city that evening, said police were very close to catching the culprits. But this has only shown the state authorities in a bad light. What was the state government doing when the Centre had alerted it with prior intelligence? It has become difficult for the common man to know whom to believe. Everyday, newspapers tell us about the security measures the government is adopting and yet there are more blasts. Is there any guarantee that such incidents will not recur? One finds it really difficult to go out in the evening even on a leisurely walk these days. A.K. Das Guwahati
A private firm has recently been given the job of disposing garbage, but it is also the duty of us residents to see that waste is actually thrown in the vats and nowhere else. It is shocking to find people throwing garbage outside the bins. Citizens will have to play a positive role in cleaning up the city, as other agencies will only facilitate the process. A lot of hue and cry has been raised over paying Rs 50 to the company that has been entrusted with keeping our city clean. We need to understand that nothing comes for free, especially when someone else is providing the service. But yes, the service should be timely and of a high quality. Otherwise, residents after some time will raise their voices in protest and the entire initiative will be lost. Residents should also inculcate a sense of discipline. Both sides have to co-operate for the success of the mission. |
